Answers − Converting a Fraction into a Percentage

1.   17/50 =

  (a)   Simplify the fraction: 17/50 is already simplified

  (b)   100 ÷ 50 = 2 (50 is the denominator of the fraction)

  (c)   17/50 × 2/2 = 34/100 = 34%

2.   18/20 =

  (a)   Simplify the fraction: 18/20 = 9/10

  (b)   100 ÷ 10 = 10 (10 is the denominator of the fraction)

  (c)   9/10 × 10/10 = 90/100 = 90%

3.   400/800 =

  (a)   Simplify the fraction: 400/800 = 1/2

  (b)   100 ÷ 2 = 50 (2 is the denominator of the fraction)

  (c)   1/2 × 50/50 = 50/100 = 50%

4.   140/300 =

  (a)   Simplify the fraction: 140/300 = 7/15

  (b)   100 ÷ 15 = 6.67 (15 is the denominator of the fraction)

  (c)   7/15 × 6.67/6.67 = 46.67/100 = 46.67%
