### Converting a Fraction into a Percentage

There are three steps

Note: a recap on simplifying fractions refer to Fractions - simplify

- Example 1. What is
^{2}/_{5}as a Percentage? - Example 2. What is
^{4}/_{20}as a Percentage? - Example 3. What is
^{25}/_{50}as a Percentage? - Example 4. What is
^{200}/_{8000}as a Percentage?

**(a)** Simplify the fraction: ^{2}/_{5} is already simplified

**(b)** 100 ÷ 5 = 20 (5 is the denominator of the fraction)

**(c)** ^{2}/_{5} × ^{20}/_{20} = ^{40}/_{100} = 40%

**(a)** Simplify the fraction ^{4}/_{20} = ^{1}/_{5}

**(b)** 100 ÷ 5 = 20 (5 is the denominator of the simplified fraction)

**(c)** ^{1}/_{5} × ^{20}/_{20} = ^{20}/_{100} = 20%

**(a)** Simplify the fraction ^{25}/_{50} = ^{1}/_{2}

**(b)** 100 ÷ 2 = 50 (2 is the denominator of the simplified fraction)

**(c)** ^{1}/_{2} × ^{50}/_{50} = ^{50}/_{100} = 50%

**(a)** Simplify the fraction ^{200}/_{8000} = ^{1}/_{40}

**(b)** 100 ÷ 40 = 2.5 (40 is the denominator of the simplified fraction)

**(c)** ^{1}/_{40} × ^{2.5}/_{2.5} = ^{2.5}/_{100} = 2.5%
