### Mixed numbers − converting to top heavy fractions

A top heavy fraction is when the numerator is larger than the denominator

- Example 1. 2
^{4}/_{5}=^{14}/_{5} - Example 2. 3
^{2}/_{5}=^{17}/_{5} - Example 3. 1
^{3}/_{7}=^{10}/_{7}

Step 1. 2 × 5 = 10.

Step 2. 10 + 4 = 14.

The 14 becomes the numerator and the denominator is still 5

Step 1. 3 × 5 = 15.

Step 2. 15 + 2 = 17.

The 17 becomes the numerator and the denominator is still 5

Step 1. 1 × 7 = 7.

Step 2. 7 + 3 = 10.

The 10 becomes the numerator and the denominator is still 7
