Answers − Fractions divide

1.   2/5 ÷ 2/3 = 2/5 × 3/2
      = 6/10
      = 3/5
   when there is a 2 on the numerator and the denominator, it cancels out

   OR = 2/5 × 3/2 = 3/5

2.   1/6 ÷ 2/5 = 1/6 × 5/2
      = 5/12

3.   4/7 ÷ 2/3 = 4/7 × 3/2
      = 12/14
      = 6/7

4.   3/8 ÷ 3/4 = 3/8 × 4/3
      = 4/8
      = 1/2
   when there is a 3 on the numerator and the denominator, it cancels out

5.   4/9 ÷ 4/7 = 4/9 × 7/4
      = 7/9
   when there is a 4 on the numerator and the denominator, it cancels out

6.   4/5 ÷ 2/3 = 4/5 × 3/2
      = 12/10 = 6/5
      = 1 1/5


7.   2/3 ÷ 2/5 = 2/3 × 5/2
      = 5/3
      = 1 2/3
   when there is a 2 on the numerator and the denominator, it cancels out

8.    1 1/7 ÷ 4 1/2 = 8/7 ÷ 9/2
      = 8/7 × 2/9
      = 16/63

9.    1 3/4 ÷ 1 5/7 = 7/4 ÷ 12/7
      = 7/4 × 7/12
      = 49/48
      = 1 1/48

10.    2 1/9 ÷ 3 5/8 = 19/9 ÷ 29/8
      = 19/9 × 8/29
      = 152/261
