Answers − Factorisation

  1.   Factorise 6a + 72

  6a + 72  has the HCF of 6
  6a + 72  = 6 × a + 6 × 12
    = 6 × (a + 12)
    = 6(a + 12)

  2.   Factorise 9 + 54c

  9 + 54c  has the HCF of 9
  9 + 54c  = 9 × 1 + 9 × 6c
    = 9 × (1 + 6c)
    = 9(1 + 6c)

  3.   Factorise 12b + 28

  12b + 28  has the HCF of 4
  12b + 28  = 4 × 3b + 4 × 7
    = 4 × (3b + 7)
    = 4(3b + 7)

  4.   Factorise 27 + 63y

  27 + 63y  has the HCF of 9
